3A62 Painting Under A Knife

-Adult- | Available

Whether you’re an advanced painter or still fairly new to the medium, palette knife painting offers exciting rich layers of colour and texture that enliven your canvas through an array of surprising techniques. Explore diverse approaches using various styles of palette or painting knives to ‘push and pull’ the paint – applying and picking up paint from the working surface. Learn thick impasto layering and variety in linework and mark-making using the technique of sgraffito. Other topics include choosing a quality knife, layering and separating colours, using the body of the knife, thick and thin use of paint and lines, smearing techniques, pressing and lifting, double-loading and more. Throughout, there’s discussion of historical art references and plenty of practice on your own studies. Some painting experience recommended. Lessons will use acrylics, but oils welcome.

Members: $202.97 + HST, Non-Members: $209 + HST. Wednesday.
