Four Films from Kelly Reichardt: First Cow
Special Event | Available
Acclaimed film director Kelly Reichardt was described by the New Yorker in 2023 as “this country’s finest observer of ordinary grit.” Over three decades she has created an uncompromised body of work, exploring a wide range of ideas while focusing on the lives of working people. We'll discuss the themes and stylistic choices revealed in her films, how her films fit in and differ from the modern film landscape as well as hearing class reaction in post-screening discussion.
This week, we'll be screening the 1800s pioneer tale FIRST COW.
Other screenings in this series include Reichardt's 1994 debut RIVER OF GRASS, a personal take on the “lovers on the run” genre, the woman and dog story WENDY & LUCY with Michelle Williams, and her latest, SHOWING UP, following a teacher/artist as she goes through her process in a community art school much like Fleisher Memorial. Please register for each screening that you would like to attend.
