2A61 *NEW* Painted Storyline
-Adult- | Available
Working from a chosen story (decided by the group at the beginning of the course), we’ll explore the many ways artists and painters have created imagery to bring a story to life. Then, we’ll start in on our own tableau. You’ll work on individual paintings which relate to a scene, character or pivotal moment in the story. We’ll spend time learning and discussing different process possibilities including (but not limited to) pencil drawing, ink, watercolour or collage. And, we’ll look at exceptional painters who have created narrative works—from historical examples such as Sir John Everett Millais and William Blake—to contemporary artists such as Marc Chagall, Charlotte Salomon and Marcel Dzama. By the end of the course, you’ll complete 1–2 finished works that connect to a shared narrative while expressing your own unique perspective. Previous painting experience is strongly recommended.
