3A111 Calligraphy – Pointed Pen Uncials

-Adult- | Available

Uncial scripts began to emerge in the 3rd century and were used well into the 9th century as a good book-hand because scribes could put so much more on the page with tight interlinear spacing. This alphabet was also known as a transitional alphabet – a style that could be used between the tedious Roman capitals and the other alphabets that were just starting to appear with ascenders and descenders, and considered lower-case minuscules. Pointed Pen Uncial is an upright roundish hand introduced by Mike Kecseg in the early 1990’s – a unique treat and something different and fun to explore. In this class, you’ll receive an introduction to calligraphy’s tools and techniques as you explore this lively cursive. The results are sure to deliver an air of elegance and expressiveness to your correspondence, invitations and art designs. No previous skills required. Steel nib, holder and walnut ink will be provided.
