Spend Friday afternoons talking about great style! Each week, we’ll explore the unique creative spirit of one decade from the past century, moving fluidly across the fields of art, fashion and design. From Twenties’ flappers to Fifties’ Formica, and from Mary Quant to Martha Stewart, you’ll learn about the fascinating stories behind the makers, the products and the cultural trends that helped to shape a hundred years of artful living. Sharpen your visual vocabulary as we discuss the latest looks on the runway and red carpet, try your hand at some light sketching and share stories about your own adventures in style. Previous art history experience not required. Please bring a sketch pad or notebook, plus pencils, pens and/or markers.

Mark Challen
Art history instructor Mark Challen is a design and style expert. He is the former Vice-President of Communications at Canadian House & Home magazine where he worked for 18 years, creating custom advertising campaigns for lifestyle companies like IKEA, Intel, Kraft, L’Oreal, and Homesense. Mark is also an accomplished public speaker and presenter, and known for his appearances on House & Home TV ;and Entertainment Tonight Canada. He studied art history as an undergraduate at Queen’s University and worked on his Master’s degree at York University. His teaching style is upbeat, informative and fun, embodying his love of design, fashion, food, history and pop culture.
