4A119 *NEW* Calligraphy – Carolingian Script

-Adult- | This program is completed

Carolingian minuscule is a clear and manageable script established by the educational reforms of Charlemagne in the latter part of the 8th and early 9th centuries. As rediscovered and refined in the Italian Renaissance by the humanists, the script survives as the basis of the present-day Roman upper- and lowercase type. This course provides an introduction to the Carolingian script and its nuances as you learn the art of calligraphy. The results are sure to deliver an air of expressiveness to your correspondence, invitations and art designs. Suitable for all skill levels – no previous experience required. Bring your 3mm parallel pen if you have one. If not, you’ll receive a pen holder and steel nib. Ink also provided.

Members: $169.99 + HST, Non-Members: $175 + HST. Tuesday.

Chan, Aline
Aline Chan

To Aline, calligraphy is more than just a way to write – it is a way to express oneself. Ever since she was a child, she has written with a nib pen and has since studied calligraphy with several international master calligraphers. Aline is also a quilter, working on several projects with the City of Hamilton including Canada’s 125th Anniversary, Hamilton’s Sesquicentennial and an anniversary of the War of 1812 project. In her workshops at DVSA, Aline teaches traditional styles of calligraphy.
