This online workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of the colour green for those interested in the medium of coloured pencil in botanical art. Participants must have prior experience in the medium or have attended previous online or in-person workshops in coloured pencil with Margaret. Exercises will include how to create natural green hues found in the plant world and how to avoid “digital” green. Our practical application will be the depiction of an accurate leaf structure using our created colours. It will cover techniques to capture light on a leaf surface with vein detailing. More experienced artists will be encouraged to take on leaf structures with surface texture.

Margaret Best
Internationally renowned botanical artist Margaret Best offers workshops that allow students of all levels to explore the challenges of creating realistic drawings and paintings of seasonally-themed plants. Her own botanical artwork has not only been exhibited worldwide, but also commissioned by the Royal Canadian Mint to be featured on commemorative coins. With a nurturing teaching style, she encourages confidence in beginners while skillfully identifying where intermediate and advanced artists need to focus in order to progress to higher technical levels.
