3OCAD-5 Intermediate Adobe Illustrator (Online)

This course builds on the skills, creative techniques, and concepts taught in Introduction to Adobe Illustrator. Students will learn more advanced techniques for working with paths, how to manipulate Bezier curves, how to use transparency and opacity masks, graphic styles, brush effects, symbols, pattern creation, and gradient mesh. Students will also learn how to use advanced transformation tools, envelopes, filters, effects, and graphic styles to produce professional-level illustrations and web graphics. Advanced colour, 3D effects, type effects and blending techniques to create isometric views for developing logos, icons, and technical drawings will be discussed. In addition, students will look at managing colour settings, print specifications, graphic file formats, pre-press production and high-resolution printing. Students will also learn through presentations, discussions, and critiques. 

Learning Outcomes 
Upon the successful completion of this course, students will have learned to:

  • Obtain advanced techniques for working with paths, how to manipulate Bezier curves, how to use transparency and opacity masks, graphic styles, brush effects, symbols, pattern creation, and gradient mesh
  • Gain the ability to use advanced transformation tools, envelopes, filters, effects, and graphic styles to produce professional-level illustrations and web graphics
  • Possess skills in advanced colour, 3D effects, type effects and blending techniques to create isometric views for developing logos, icons, and technical drawings will be discussed
  • Manage colour settings, print specifications, graphic file formats, pre-press production and high-resolution printing

  • In partnership with OCAD U, DVSA offers a selection of online courses each term. Up to 8 credits from the OCAD U Online courses can be applied towards completion of DVSA’s Foundational Certificate Program. Registration must be done through DVSA. Students will receive their course log in information and network credentials by email directly from OCAD U one week before the course start date.   • Online courses are delivered in an asynchronous format through a series of tutorials and related assignments which students may complete at their own pace on our Learning Management System, Canvas.   • Required Software/Supplies
    Regular access to a computer with a high speed broadband internet connection is required. For online Adobe classes, students are responsible for purchasing their own software for class.
