This two-day workshop will teach you the basics of carving as you shape a majestic shorebird. John will provide a full demonstration on how to carve your subject, pointing out the proper tool use and technique. Then it's on to creating your own carving with plenty of individual instruction and guidance as required. The finished work will be treated with oil and beeswax to enhance the look of the wood. Most supplies will be provided, but you'll need to have a carving knife and simple wood gouges. See the class material list for examples of the needed tools and options to purchase.

A resident of Brantford ON, John is renowned for his carving artistry in several forms – wood, bark, soapstone and wire sculpture. He has competed with his wood carvings for many years at both the local and international level. Also an accomplished photographer, he is passionate about nature and attempts to bring out its beauty in all his work.
