Discover the rewarding experience of creating in three dimensions as you use hand building techniques to design a unique ceramic sculpture for your spring garden. The subject of your sculpture is up to you – an abstract design, a portrait of a prince or a toad, a gargoyle or maybe a wall plaque? Or maybe your own “Octopus’ garden?” Lessons include a review of materials and tools and time to experiment with hand building techniques such as slab, coil and pellet. We’ll be modelling using simple shapes to find the form and refine the shape, and also designing simple removable armatures to support a hollow form. Then it’s time discuss patination and firing and methods to create textures. Ideal for the beginner or intermediate sculptor.
