An introduction to contemporary coloured pencil materials and core techniques best suited to success in botanical art as a dry medium. You’ll explore how to use both hard and softer core pencils and the tools required to create brilliant colour, subtle colour and textural effects. Pre-requisite: Participants must have attended Value of Colour - Pale Hues graphite workshops with either Margaret Best (online) or Heather Gross (in person) or have completed exercises in Margaret’s e-booklet Value of Colour – Pale Hues available on www.botanicalart.education. These exercises must be submitted to either Heather or Margaret to secure participation before registration can be completed.

Margaret Best
Internationally renowned botanical artist Margaret Best offers workshops that allow students of all levels to explore the challenges of creating realistic drawings and paintings of seasonally-themed plants. Her own botanical artwork has not only been exhibited worldwide, but also commissioned by the Royal Canadian Mint to be featured on commemorative coins. With a nurturing teaching style, she encourages confidence in beginners while skillfully identifying where intermediate and advanced artists need to focus in order to progress to higher technical levels.
