This 2-day intensive will focus on matters of composition and aspects of technique in your medium preference: watercolor, colored pencil or graphite. The orchid study may involve a single flower, flowers and buds or the complete plant structure including roots. For all levels. Newcomers to botanical art are encouraged to participate in the Day 1 and 2 workshops. Thursday & Friday. Course Fee: $325 includes a $20 material fee. Limit: 15 students

Internationally renowned botanical artist Margaret Best offers workshops that allow students of all levels to explore the challenges of creating realistic drawings and paintings of seasonally-themed plants. Her own botanical artwork has not only been exhibited worldwide, but also commissioned by the Royal Canadian Mint to be featured on commemorative coins. With a nurturing teaching style, she encourages confidence in beginners while skillfully identifying where intermediate and advanced artists need to focus in order to progress to higher technical levels.
