NHA in partnership with The Sacramento Developers Collective (SDC) is offering Progressive Game Jam – Educational Edition (or PGJ ED.), a program designed to teach 21st-century digital skills to 12 to 18-year-old students (7th-12th grade) with a focus on STEAM.

The course is modeled after the decade-old Progressive Game Jam and uses the full development lifecycle of making a video game as a learning method to teach digital skills. The curriculum will include instruction on the basic concepts of video game development including coding, art, animation, basic AI, sound, and UI/UX, as well as an understanding of development methodology.

Instructional aspects of the course will be completed in the first semester. IN the second semester, students will work in teams on projects they pitch, with the teachers assisting in coding, graphics, sounds, and as mentors.

Participants who complete the course will have made a full game from beginning to end.

Computers will be provided for in-class use and mentors from the SDC will teach the class.

Students who complete the course will have the opportunity to display their game at the spring showcase.
