In this two-part series, we’ll journey through the evolution of jazz dance, starting with its rich roots and soulful energy, then fast-forwarding to the bold, stylized world of commercial jazz. Whether you're here for the history, the heat, or both—this class is your backstage pass to the past and present of jazz.
Part 1 (first 5 weeks) brings classic jazz technique and groove inspired by jazz legends like Bob Fosse or Gene Kelly.
Part 2 (second 5 weeks) is a chance to channel your inner star, with moves inspired by music videos, pop icons, and today’s commercial dance scene.
Each week will have a different theme and involve activities like:
- A friendly welcome and warm-up
- Dance steps, fun improvisation, and moving around the room
- Creating your own movement and sharing it with others
- Dancing with different props
- Designing your own wearable item
- Breaks to rest, chat, and connect
Prioritizing accessibility, Community Dance Classes at the NaAC are created for anyone 18 and older from all skills, genders, and backgrounds. All movement styles, levels, and abilities are welcome!
