Do you want to explore the world of film in a fun and welcoming environment? Join us for Film Foundations, a 6-week class designed especially for artists looking to explore the medium of film. Whether you're a complete beginner or already love movies, this class is for you!
In Film Foundations, you will:
- Learn the basics of film, how films are created and what makes them special.
- Discover how directors, actors, and crew work together to tell powerful stories.
- Watch film examples, explore film genres - from action to animation, and see what makes each one unique.
- Have the chance to express your ideas and creativity, and share your thoughts with others.
This class is about enjoying films and learning at your own pace. No experience necessary! Just bring your passion for movies and your imagination. Sign up today and start your journey into the exciting world of film!
This class is open for anyone over the age of 18, whether they identify as having a disability or not, however the class prioritizes accessibility. Acomodations already in place include plain language, sensory friendly options, and no clips that feature flashing lights or graphic content. The location of the class is wheelchair accessible. ASL or Audio Description interpretation is available upon request.

Katie Wackett
Katie Wackett is a multidisciplinary artist and film curator who currently works at the National accessArts Center developing film and media programming. Katie has facilitated several programs at the NaAC including Movie Club and a Super 8 Filmmaking workshop. Outside of the NaAC, Katie works at several film festivals and creates her own film and photo works. Her career has centered on fostering community around film and creating positive educational experiences. Katie hopes to improve the accessibility of filmmaking, and ultimately encourage artists to share their unique perspectives through film and video creation.
