Adult Class | Registration opens Tuesday, October 20, 2026 8:00 AM EDT

Learn to draw plants and other botanical forms by exploring shape, structure, pattern, and detail through careful observation. Botanical Drawing will help students develop observational skills while exploring a variety of approaches to drawing from natural materials. Subject matter may include leaves, stems, flowers, roots, branches, and other plant forms. The class will consist primarily of observational drawing practices, introducing both traditional and contemporary approaches to botanical drawing. Instruction will cover the development of line drawings, the use of value to create form and volume, understanding figure-ground relationships, and creating balanced compositions.

What You Will Learn:
- Rendering botanical forms through line, contour, and cross-contour techniques.
- Using value to create form, volume, and texture.
- Observational drawing techniques for capturing the structure and details of plants.
- Recognizing and interpreting the shapes, patterns, and rhythms found in botanical forms.
- Developing balanced and thoughtful compositions from natural subject matter.
