Textiles: Surface Design and Embellishment (five sessions)

Learn to transform your textiles with embellishments and design. We will be studying samples from fiber artists and fashion houses to get inspired and excited about the possibilities of embellishments in our own work and wear! Some supplies will be available, and students are encouraged to bring clothing, canvas, hand dyed fabrics, swatches, or any other textiles to add depth and personality and create unique pieces.
What You Will Learn:
- Introduction to a range of embellishment histories and styles in fashion and art
- Basic hand and machine sewing tips and tricks
- Variety of embellishment techniques including embroidery, beading, and fabric manipulation
- For the first class, please bring:
- a 5" embroidery hoop
- chenille embroidery needles
- embroidery floss
- any swatches of fabric you're interested in, solid colors or patterned, large enough to fit in your hoop
Your instructor will share further guidance on additional tools and materials based on individual student goals.
Cassie Jones
My Name is Cassie Jones. I am traditionally trained in many types of arts and continue to search for more skillsets and experiences with visual arts. I began my creative career working with leather under the brand CUSP by Cassie for many years before moving my sights into embroidery and embellishing. I now am continuing with the trend of fiber work while incorporating fired clay and mixing mediums into my practice. I am currently building a new collection to show in galleries, instructing classes through The Craft Coven, Fleisher Art Memorial, and Black Hound Clay Studio, and facilitating learning opportunities with visiting artists and instructors.
