Expressive Drawing

Adult Summer Class | Available

This beginner-friendly drawing class invites students to explore drawing as a tool for observation, creativity, and personal expression. Through guided exercises and approachable projects, students will build confidence while developing images from quick sketches to more finished compositions. The class will begin with black-and-white drawing, focusing on fundamental skills such as line, shape, value, mark making, and composition, before gradually introducing color as a way to expand expressive possibilities. Emphasis is placed on exploration, experimentation, and personal growth rather than technical perfection.

What You Will Learn:
- Basic drawing and observational skills
- Line, value, composition, and mark-making techniques
- Color fundamentals, including value, contrast, and color relationships
- How to develop sketches into finished artwork
- Ways to use drawing and color for expression and personal style

  • - Sketchbook or mixed-media paper pad (9" x 12" or similar)
    - Graphite pencils (a variety hardness) and other assorted drawing tools
    - Eraser
    - One or two color drawing media of your choice (colored pencils, watercolor pencils, watercolor, pastels, etc.)
    - Basic watercolor brush and water container (if using watercolor or water-soluble materials)

Students do not need every type of color material. A sketchbook, drawing pencil, and one or two favorite color media are enough to participate fully. Materials will be reviewed in more detail during the first session.
