Introduction to Printmaking

This course introduces the foundational printmaking processes of etching, relief, and lithography. Through hands-on projects, you will create editions of prints while learning the essential techniques, tools, and materials used in each process. Students will gain experience with plate preparation, image development, inking, paper selection, and printing methods.
What You Will Learn:
- Prepare, develop, and print images using etching, relief, and lithographic processes
- Build technical skills in plate preparation, carving, etching, inking, and press operation
- Create editions of prints while learning proper registration, paper handling, and printing techniques
- Learn the fundamentals of print editioning, presentation, and studio practices
Who Is This Class For:

Elaine Erne
Elaine Erne, co-founder and co-director of Star Wheel Printers, received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and her MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Erne’s drawings and prints have been featured in numerous invitational and juried national exhibitions.
