Analog Animation

Animation is a medium, not a genre! This course will give a deep grounding in the methods and principles of traditional animation. Throughout this class you will view short films, experiment with a variety of materials, participate in group discussions, and create a number of short films of your own devising.
What You Will Learn:
- Expanded knowledge of the medium of animation and all its potential.
- Understanding of the technical processes involved in creating stop-frame and cell-based animation.
- Ability to analyze movement and convey emotion and meaning through a series of drawings.
- Grounding in the process of creating a finished work from start to finish. This process will include idea gathering, writing, storyboarding, roughs, iteration, finals, and critique
- - Smartphone with free “Stopmotion Studio” app
- Smartphone table clamp, Remote shutter
- Lightpad
- Drawing tools (Vine Charcoal, Pencil, Marker, Ink, Pen, Watercolor, Pastel)
- Round peg bar
- Three hole punched A4 paper (lots of it)
- Masking tape
- Scissors
- Old magazines
- Oil based clay
- Esoteric objects and other things you find along the way
- Sketchbook
Seth McKeever
Seth McKeever is an artist currently living in Philadelphia. He received a BFA in Sculpture and Animation from Tyler School of Art, and was also awarded a CARAS Grant and a Sculpture Project Award. His work is primarily experimental animation with an introspective, narrative bent.
