Discover the fundamentals of screen printing, a versatile printmaking technique that transforms your designs into stencils for application on surfaces like fabric, paper, and more. This course introduces the essentials of coating and exposing screens, mixing inks, and setting up a reliable printing workspace. You’ll create prints using both analog and digital methods, exploring how mark-making, collage, and photography can enhance graphic and textural elements.

What You Will Learn:
Gain confidence in pulling a screenprint through group and individual instruction

- Produce a one- to two-color edition of 12 prints
- Explore a range of stencil-making techniques used in screenprinting
- Understand the possibilities of the medium through hands-on practice and examples of contemporary and historical work
- Set personal goals for the course, informed by your own sketches, ideas, or previous work (printed or non-printed)

  • Start the term with these supplies:
    - Sketchbook
    - Pencil
    - Black posca marker
    - 1 roll masking tape

    Midway through the term students may need these supplies:
    - 3-4 colors Speedball Water-based screenprinting ink (CMYK primaries or preferred colors)
    - 3-4 sheets Rives BFK or other smooth printmaking paper as needed for independent project
    - 1-4 T-shirts or other clothing blanks
    - 1-2 colors Speedball textile screen-printing ink
    - Thumb drive to bring in photo resources

Marie Elcin

Marie Elcin has been teaching in both the children and adult programs at Fleisher since 2007. She has a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design and a Master of Art Education from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She is a practicing fiber artist with a focus on embroidery, surface design, and printmaking.
