Discover the art of monoprinting with gel plates in this engaging, hands-on workshop designed for beginners and experienced artists alike. This two-session course introduces the creative possibilities of gel plate printing, a versatile and accessible technique that allows for layered textures, vibrant colors, and one-of-a-kind prints. Students will learn how to create stencils to incorporate them into their image making as well as how different textural objects leave an impression in ink. They'll also explore image transfers with magazines! Students will experiment with tools, materials, and methods to develop their own unique visual language.



What You Will Learn:
- How to use gel plates and essential monoprinting tools
- Techniques for applying and manipulating paint on the plate
- Methods for creating texture and pattern
- Layering strategies to build depth and complexity
- How to incorporate stencils, natural materials, and found objects
- Tips for composing visually engaging prints

  • - Gel plate (5x7" or 8x10" recommended)
    - Acrylic paints (primary colors + black and white)
    - Brayer (soft rubber roller)
    - Printing paper (mixed media or printmaking paper)
    - Palette (acrylic sheet, tray, or freezer paper)
    - Stencils and/or textured materials
    - Personal materials to experiment with (charms, coins, doilies, leaves, lace, cardboard, etc.)
    - Baby wipes or paper towels (for cleaning)
    - Watercolor paper or cardstock 
    - Magazines

    Please dress for mess, acrylic paint can stain clothing. An apron or old clothes are recommended.

Amira is a collage artist, painter, and printmaker. Her work serves as an attempt to navigate growth, grief, and joy while centering her experiences as a black woman. My teaching practice involves experimentation and intuitive making with mosaics, painting, and collage.
