Henry Bermudez

Henry Bermudez is an American contemporary artist born in Venezuela who immigrated to the United States in 2003 amid political upheaval. His work is shaped by formative experiences in Afro-Caribbean and Indigenous communities, particularly time spent in a coastal Venezuelan village and travels through the Amazon, where music, myth, and landscape left a lasting imprint. Later years in Mexico helped solidify his visual language and deepened his interest in mythology, religion, and the legacy of colonialism. Drawing from pre-Hispanic, Judeo-Christian, and Afro-Caribbean traditions, Bermudez works across diverse materials to create hybrid forms that transcend geography and time, reflecting an autobiographical vision rooted beyond Western conventions.
