Machine Sewing (Afternoon)

Adult Summer Class | Registration opens Monday, May 4, 2026 8:00 AM EDT

Introduction to Machine Sewing is a lecture and studio-based course designed to teach students the basics of sewing and sewing machine operation. Whether you're a beginner or need a refresher, students in this course will learn to confidently thread and troubleshoot machines, expand their knowledge of popular seam finishes, zippers, and hems, and identify fabrics for construction. We will begin the class by sewing customizable tote bags, then choose a project based on the group's interests and skill level. The summer session is shorter than other sessions so while we may be able to address students' personal interests or projects, we will focus on skill-building and completing approachable projects. This class will progressively build on different skills each week, and is suggested for those who can commit to attending all sessions.
