Join us for fantastic animals in papier-mâché! Explore the art of papier-mâché, with a focus on the traditional cartapesta technique. Students will design and construct a medium-sized animal sculpture, learning how to build form, develop surface structure, and refine details through layered paper construction and finishing techniques. The course emphasizes both playful experimentation and sculptural planning, resulting in a fully realized painted artwork.

Mauricio Perez
Mauricio studied art at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He has been highly influenced by the Mexican Surrealism movement and uses this point of reference to create large Papier-mâché sculptures that commingle craft skills with academics art practices. With 20 years of experience of working in this medium, he currently teaches various Papier-mâché workshop throughout the Philadelphia and New York City areas and participates in local craft fairs in both regions.
