Darkroom: 8 Hour Super 8 Marathon (2 Day)

Adult Summer Workshop | Available

Here is your chance to have a hands-on immersion into instant filmmaking! In two 8-hour sessions, you will learn the essentials of how to use a Super 8 movie camera, film in the colorful environs of South Philadelphia, and hand develop the roll!

But, that's not all! The next day, we will view the films and later print images of individual still frames and strips from them! There are no prerequisites for this offering, which is open to students at all levels.

What You Will Learn:
- The essential skills of how to use a Super 8 camera (which will be provided, but feel free to bring your working camera) including getting the right exposure settings.

- How to develop their own film in a quick and hands-on way.
- A demo on color photograms: an image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of photographic paper and then exposing it to light.
- Furthering the photogram lesson, students will print images utilizing the RA-4 reversal technique- in a color darkroom, a rare opportunity. The class will print stills or strips from their films.

Accessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access. The main workspace is reachable via an alternate entrance, but some areas require stairs. Please contact adulteducation@fleisher.org to discuss accommodations.

  • All supplies for this class are included.
