Introduction to Stop Motion Animation

Adult Class | FULL

This course delves into the old-school medium of stop-motion animation. Students will create their own moving artworks using digital tools, photography, and hands-on sculpting. As we explore the history and contemporary work in this field, you'll find that it's a challenging yet highly rewarding process. With the right mix of patience and creativity, students will unlock the potential to express fresh concepts through this entirely distinctive artistic medium.

What You Will Learn:

  • Mastering fundamental stop-motion techniques.
  • Analyzing the pros and cons of working with stop-motion.
  • Creating miniature puppets and sets using a variety of mixed media.
  • Understanding and applying the 12 principles of animation to enhance your work.

  • The tools and materials listed below are suggested. The instructor will advise students on the first day and Fleisher will be providing additional tools as possible and needed.

    First day of class:
    • If you have an iPad with a working camera, please being this with you to the first day of class - this is not required but highly recommended
    • Sketchbook
    Second Session and beyond:
    • Armature materials (aluminum wire, machine screws, nuts, plumbers epoxy) - we will go over this list the first day of class
    • Drill
    • Quick grip clamps
    • Polymer clay or play-doh
    • Cardboard
    • Various craft supplies (construction paper, model magic, etc.)
