Sculptural Forms (Tuition Free)

Adult Tuition-Free Class | FULL (Membership Required)

You will explore a range of three-dimensional working methods starting with simple studies of organic and geometric forms, culminating in basic figure and animal shapes. Each piece will be sculpted in clay and fired at the end of the semester. No prior experience necessary.

What you will learn:
- To create forms out of clay from observation.
- How to properly use tools.
- How to prepare pieces for firing.
- How to finish sculptures with a variety of patinas.
- Increased knowledge of hand-building techniques.

Firing Schedule:
Sculpture students are welcome to fire finished work in our Ceramics Studio. Finished work may not be on an armature and must be bone dry before firing. Therefore, sculpture students are encouraged to bring finished work home at the end of the term and bring it back to campus the following term for firing.

If firing during term,
work should be placed on the bisque firing shelf by Friday, May 22, and on the glaze firing shelf by Friday, May 29 to guarantee it will be fired by the last week of classes. Students can continue to drop off work for glaze firing until Friday, June 5. Finished work can be picked up during operational hours between terms, or the following term. We will store unclaimed work for one term only. Questions about the firing schedule can be directed to Scott Cooper, Senior Studio Technician at scooper@fleisher.org.

All artwork and supplies must be removed from Fleisher’s Ceramics Studio shelving by June 12 unless registered for a Ceramics class during the upcoming Summer 2026 term.

Please note: Class will not meet on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

Tuition Free classes require an active Fleisher membership.
