Acrylic Painting (Monday)

This class is designed to develop the basic techniques to work with acrylic paints. Through experimentation on various mediums with different brands of acrylic paints, students will learn about the advantages and limitations of using acrylic paint and also how to overcome the common challenges. Students will also learn the differences between acrylic and oil painting.
This class will also focus on basic techniques in painting, such as, coloring, blending, mixing, layering, brush types, stroke quality, surfaces making and color preservation. Basic knowledge of drawing and sketching would be beneficial but not mandatory. La profesora habla español.

Please Note: Class will not meet on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.
Paint:
• Titanium White (at least 8.oz)
The following colors can be 2oz:
• Cadmium yellow
• Cadmium red
• Burnt sienna
• Raw umber
• Permanent Green
• Yellow Ochre
• Ultramarine blue
• Mars or Carbon Black
Other supplies:
• Plastic palette NICOLE 10in1/2 x 7in.
• Matte medium (at least 8oz)
• 9”x 12” canvas boards (4 quantity)
• 24”x 30” canvas boards (2 quantity)
• ½ inch, 1 inch and 2-inch Bright Acrylic Brushes
• #2 and #6 Round Acrylic Brushes
• #1 liner brush(1quantity) and #4 flat Acrylic Brushes (1quantity)
• Blue painter's tape
• Palette knife
• Container (for water and to clean brushes)
• HB pencil
• Ruler

Alicia Miño
Alicia Mino Gonzalez was born in Santiago, Chile, and studied drawing and painting since the age of thirteen. The urban escapes and the dynamic city life were essential in the development of her social-oriented consciousness that later influenced and guided her artistic trajectory. She graduated from the Metropolitan University of Chile where she received a master’s degree in visual communication. She later moved to Italy where she spent fifteen years studying art history, oil painting, and sculpture; there she also participated in solo and group shows alongside many recognized Italian artists. Her European experience improved her pictorial technique and deepened her understanding of the positive impact of art in society. With this new-found knowledge, Alicia started an educational path, founding the Mates Art and Design Studio, where she taught drawing, oil/acrylic painting, and sculpture fundamentals for ten years.
