Introduction to Quilting

Adult Class | Registration opens Monday, October 20, 2025 8:00 AM EDT

Have you always wanted to make a quilt but didn’t know where to start? This multi-week class is designed for true beginners and guides students through the quilting process step by step, from fabric selection to a finished quilt top. Each week, you’ll build new skills while exploring the fundamentals of quilting, including choosing and preparing fabrics, cutting accurately, piecing quilt blocks, designing layouts, and using a sewing machine with confidence. By the end of the course, you will complete a small lap quilt.

What you will learn:
1. How to select and prepare fabrics for a quilt
2. Techniques for accurate cutting and piecing of quilt blocks
3. Fundamentals of quilt design and layout
4. Confident use of a sewing machine for quilting
5. Step-by-step construction of a complete lap quilt
6. Tips for finishing and presenting your quilt

  • • Notebook and writing utensils for notes
    • Pencils
    • Clear gridded ruler or quilting ruler
    • Seam ripper
    • Spool of thread
    • Fabric scissors
    • Paper scissors
    • 2 contrasting solid color quilting cotton fabrics, 1 yard each

Students will need to shop for fabric and batting about 3 weeks into the class depending on the project they decide to work on.
