Experimental Watercolor

Adult Class | Available

In this highly energetic class, learn to abandon fears and truly embrace the experimentation of what water-based mediums can do. Together we will experiment with the mediums, materials, and techniques to discover the wide range of effects that can be achieved. This class is centered on material exploration. Students will make tests and have the opportunity to sample and incredible range of of water-based paints. This course is open to all levels. Anyone interested in discovering the joy in relinquishing control through guided demonstrations and painting exercises, is welcome and encouraged to join this class. 

What you will learn:
1. Really explore alternative water-based painting techniques
2. Get comfortable with working wet into wet
3. Take risks and experiment with new water-based materials

  • • Palette and/or mixing dishes
    • Liquid masking fluid
    • Plastic spray bottle
    • Painters Tape
    • Watercolor brushes: round tip - #4 and #10,1-inch flat brush
    • Watercolor paper: individual sheets or block–140lb. Cold pressed, 8 x 10, or 9 x 12 pads
    • Watercolor paint in tubes or trays (Colors will be discussed the first day of class): a few suggested brands – Winsor & Newton, Da Vinci, L'Aquarelle, Holbein, Daniele Smith Watercolors, and Blick
    • Water-soluble colored pencils and crayons (optional)
    • Waterproof Black Ink (optional)  

Robert Reinhardt

Robert Reinhardt is an artist/educator who actively explores his love of nature versus man-made structures through photography and painting. He holds degrees from Tyler School of Art and the University of the Arts. He is an art instructor at Germantown Friends School and the Fleisher Art Memorial. His work has been widely exhibited in national and local galleries and juried exhibitions, as well as public, corporate, and private collections. Select collections include the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Federal Reserve Bank, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Edinburgh Central Library, and the Free Library of Philadelphia.
