Mosaic Shoes

Have you ever admired a mosaic shoe and wondered how the artist was able to do this. Wonder no more! In this class you will create a 3-D substrate using a closed toe shoe to create a mosaic shoe. Learn how to prep an old shoe as well as fill, harden and smooth to transform cast-off footware into a stable mosaic substrate. The class will then learn appropriate usage of various materials and adhesives to create their desired design including the appropriate use of embellishments. Students will learn appropriate techniques to deal with the unique challenges of working with a 3 dimensional substrate. Tips will be given for successful display of finished shoes. Students are encouraged to bring unique materials for use as both tesserae and embellishments.
(Students must provide their own closed toe shoe or ankle bootie. Open toed shoes or boots are not acceptable.
Please note: class will not meet on Tuesday, February 3 and Tuesday, February 17, but students are welcome to work independently in the space during this time.
