Jewelry Making: Independent Projects

Adult Class | Registration opens Monday, October 20, 2025 8:00 AM EDT

This is an intermediate course designed to expand on a variety of technical processes, design concepts, and tools essential for understanding and working with non-ferrous metals on a wearable scale. Some intermediate techniques that will be covered include: sawing, filing, riveting, forming, texture, soldering, and finishing.

What you will learn:
1. Design concepts as they pertain to wearable and decorative metals
2. Working with specialized tools
3. Intermediate techniques

Please note: Class will not meet on Monday, January 19 and Monday, February 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. and Presidents' Days.

    Start the term with these supplies:
    • Herkules Saw blades 2/0 – 2dozen (24 total)
    • 3” x 3” 20 gauge Copper sheet
    • 3” x 3” 20 gauge Brass sheet
    • 1ft. of 14 gauge round Brass wire hard
    • 2ft. of 18 gauge round Copper wire soft
    • Sketch Book or Paper to draw on
    • Sharpie thin and thick “Black” only
    • Pencil and Pen
    • Old Rag or t-shirt for drying metal
    • Small plastic baggies or containers to keep small pieces in.

    Midway through the term students will need these supplies:
    • Cabochon Stone
    • Sterling Silver Bezel Wire
    • Sterling Silver Sheet 24 gauge – 1” X 1”

    (No Nickel or Steel in studio unless previously discussed and Gold at your own expense!)

    Materials are extremely important to have because without them projects will not be able to be completed.
