Portrait Drawing

This course offers students a solid foundation in portrait drawing, with a focus on building confidence and accuracy. Instruction focuses on the fundamentals of achieving a strong likeness, including head structure, feature placement, and careful observation of light and shadow. Students will develop a deeper understanding of how to see and translate the human face into a drawing. Work will be based on photographs, drawings, live models, and masterworks.
What you will learn:
1. The ability to get a strong likeness every time
2. The observation and understanding of head structure.
3. Learning to see the direction of light in terms of light and shadow patterns
4. Observing complexion as a relationship of skin color, hair color and eye color
5. Seeing the three qualities of light: light, transition and shadow
Please note: Class will not meet on Monday, January 19 and Monday, February 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. and Presidents' Days.
