Learn to draw organic forms of varying complexity by exploring shapes, patterns, and designs that occur in nature. Drawing Organic Form will help students develop observational skills while encouraging playful and responsive drawing techniques as we explore a variety of natural materials. Subject matter may include plants, roots, leaves, tree branches, rock, shell, bones, and more.
The class will consist primarily of observational still-life practices, introducing traditional and somewhat alternative approaches to drawing. Instructions will cover the development of line drawings, the use of value to create form and
volume, understanding figure-ground relationships, and learning to draw a balanced composition.
What you will learn:
1. Gain comfort with using various drawing materials, including graphite, charcoal, erasers, and ink
2. Rendering of form using various drawing techniques
3. Identify value by drawing with multiple materials including collage, charcoal, ink washes
4. Drawing from observation to understand contour, shape, proportion, and value relationships
