Ceramics for Mosaics: Tiles, Bas-Relief and More (five sessions)

This course will focus on using clay to create dimensional tiles. In class we will complete two pieces. One will be made more intuitively and the other will involve more intentional designing. Both will result in a glazed bas relief "puzzle" mosaic. We will use low fire clay, underglazes and top glaze coat to create these functional projects. Tile setting, grouting and finishing will be covered.
What you will learn:
1. How to interpret a bas relief design from a 2D image
2. How to use texture and relief techniques in clay
3. How to create, set and grout a ceramic mosaic panel.

• Your first bag of clay is included in your registration - no outside clay is permitted. Additional clay can be purchased at the front desk.
• A substrate for your second mosaic ( please wait to purchase, we will go over options during class #1) masonite, wood, or wedi board
• Clay tools (something like this)
• Paint brushes (for underglazing)
