From Common to Creative: Making Mosaics Using Ordinary Materials (five sessions)

This class will open your eyes to new ways of using easily accessible materials to create Mosaic Masterpieces…first at Fleisher, later in your home! Each week new materials and processes will be explored, focusing on using non traditional mosaic materials, while still acknowledging mosaic traditions. Experimentation and sampling will be central to this freeing and fun class! All experience levels welcome!
Note: the bulk of these supplies are found at the Dollar Store.
For the first class, bring the glue, pencil, scissors, foam core and Week 1 supplies.
Each week bring:
• White glue (elmer or the like) 8 oz.
• Pencil
• Scissors
• #5 8" x 8" pieces of foam core
• (Week 1) Various paper scraps (newspaper, origami,construction, rice paper etc)
• (Week 2) A bag of mixed dried beans ("soup mix"...as much variety as possible)
• (Week 3) Wood toothpicks, cardboard scraps, skewers , popsicle sticks
• (Week 4) Scraps of thin cotton fabric, novelty ice cube trays (will use for casting..will not be food safe afterwards), protective latex gloves
