Bioplastics Workshops (one-day workshop)
Adult Summer Workshop | Available
Curious about bioplastics and how art can engage with sustainability? Join artist and educator Elizabeth Shores for a hands-on introduction to plant-based materials and simple bioplastic-making techniques. In this short immersive workshop, Elizabeth will share their work with bioplastics and bioaggregates—materials created from seaweed and compostable matter—and how these materials connect to questions of waste, power, and ecology. Participants will learn the basics of mixing and casting simple bioplastic sheets and strings using everyday, compostable ingredients. The workshop will include a short talk and live demo, followed by time for questions and experimentation with the materials. No prior experience is needed, and all materials will be provided.
What you will learn:
1. What bioplastics and bioaggregates are, and how artists use them.
2. How to mix and cast a simple bioplastic
3. How art can engage with sustainability and ideas from discard studies
This workshop is a chance to get inspired by accessible bio-art methods that can be tried at home, using minimal tools and low-impact materials.
