Sewing with Sun: Cyanotype and Anthotype Discoveries (three-day workshop)
Adult Summer Workshop | Available
In this workshop we will combine the magic of sunlight with the craft of sewing to create one-of-a-kind textile pieces. Using natural chemicals to make cyanotypes, and kitchen spices to trial photo printing techniques known as anthotypes, participants will create sun-printed imagery on fabric. With the guidance of your instructor we will transform those prints into small sewn works based on our individual skill levels. Some possibilities include a keepsake pouch, jewelry pillow, quilted panel, or textile artwork. This process-based class invites experimentation, collaboration with nature, and a gentle rhythm of making. Each session will include guided instruction, time for printing and sewing, outdoor play, and space to explore personal design ideas.
What you will learn:
1. Basics of the anthotype process using natural dyes and sunlight
2. Preparing and coating fabric for printing with cyanotype emulsions
3. Creating and exposing images using objects, stencils, or transparencies
4. Hand and machine sewing techniques to construct small functional or decorative pieces
