Sculpture: Small Structures (five sessions)

Explore the fun and creative world of small-scale sculpture in this five-week class. Students will learn to design and construct small-scale balsa wood sculptures. The process and materials are lightweight, inexpensive, and require only a few tools and materials to get started!
Students will take their ideas from concept to form, learning to draw, model, cut carve and construct sculptures of their own design. We will also explore options for incorporating additional materials, finishing, and painting.
What you will learn:
1. How to design and build a small-scale sculpture
2. Basic knowledge of cutting and carving balsa wood for sculpture and model making
3. Finishing and painting techniques for small scale sculptures
Supplies to have on first day of class:
• Sketch book and drawing pencils
• An Exacto knife with blades
• Ideas
Additional materials for this class are listed below. The instructor will discuss materials and advise students on quantities and sourcing based on their plans and ideas.
