Introduction to Experimental Watercolor (one-session workshop)

In this highly energetic class, learn to abandon fears and truly embrace the experimentation of what water-based mediums can do. Together we will experiment with the mediums, materials, and techniques to discover the wide range of effects that can be achieved. This class is centers material exploration. Students will make tests and have the opportunity to sample and incredible range of of water-based paints. This course is open to all levels. Anyone interested in discovering the joy in relinquishing control through guided demonstrations and painting exercises, is welcome and encouraged to join this class.
What you will learn:
1. Really explore alternative water-based painting techniques
2. Get comfortable with working wet into wet
3. Take risks and experiment with new water-based materials
• Palette and/or mixing dishes
• Liquid masking fluid
• Plastic spray bottle
• Painters Tape
• Watercolor brushes: round tip - #4 and #10,1-inch flat brush
• Watercolor paper: individual sheets or block–140lb. Cold pressed, 8 x 10, or 9 x 12 pads
• Watercolor paint in tubes or trays (Colors will be discussed the first day of class): a few suggested brands – Winsor & Newton, Da Vinci, L'Aquarelle, Holbein, Daniele Smith Watercolors, and Blick
• Water-soluble colored pencils and crayons (optional)
• Waterproof Black Ink (optional)
