Discovering Printmaking: On the Press (tuition-free)

Printmaking is a versatile technique for making image multiples for craft and fine art. In this class you will learn will a range of techniques using the printmaking presses available at Fleisher. We will explore quick free-hand techniques like mono print as well as more exacting techniques like dry point and etching. We will also learn how to mix ink colors, and explore line and texture quality of different techniques. By the end of the semester, you will have the skills to make and take home an edition of prints to share!

What you will learn:
1. Knowledge of the history and contemporary practice of etching by looking at prints by historical and contemporary artists
2. Basic knowledge of mono print, dry point and etching tools and materials.
3. Students will be able to set up an efficient print station, print an edition, and work productively in a shared studio space

  • Can be purchased after the first class - instructor will discuss supplies during the first class.

    • Copper etching plate (any size)
    • Plexiglass plate for drypoint (any size)
    • Scriber etching needle
    • Paper – Stonehenge or Rives BFK
    • Rags (old t-shirt rags)
    * Recycled glass containers
