Ceramics for Walls: Flat and Hangable Wares (seven sessions)

Adult Class | FULL

Through demos and individual assistance, students will learn how to create earthenware wall features. Along with non functional decor, students will have the opportunity to create functional objects such as mirrors and clocks. Students will be shown both hand building and wheel throwing techniques, as well as the basics of glazing.

What you will learn:
1. Planning and realization of time sensitive clay builds.
2. Understanding of slab rollers, extruders, and pottery wheels.
3. Decoration and finish of artworks.

Firing Schedule: All work should be placed on the bisque firing shelf by Friday, May 23, and on the glaze firing shelf by Friday, May 30 to guarantee it will be fired by the last week of classes. Students can continue to drop off work for glaze firing until Friday, June 6. Finished work can be picked up during operational hours between terms, or the following term. We will store unclaimed work for one term only. Questions about the firing schedule can be directed to Scott Cooper, Senior Studio Technician at scooper@fleisher.org.

Please review your class schedule as not all classes meet through the week of June 6. All artwork and supplies must be removed from Fleisher’s Ceramics Studio shelving by June 6 unless registered for a Ceramics class during the upcoming Summer 2025 term.

Please note that part of this classroom is accessible by stairs only; please contact Fleisher for more information.

  • Start the term with these supplies:

    • Your first bag of clay is included in your registration - no outside clay is permitted. Additional clay can be purchased at the front desk.
    • Basic clay tool kit (rib, cut off wire, pin tool, small sponge, loop trimming tool)
    • Cloth hand towel and apron
