Working from still-life objects, design exercises and photographs we will explore topics of color mixing, value, and composition. Learn expressive brushwork, clear vibrant glazing, lifting, masking, and spattering techniques. Start your own watercolor sketchbook and explore the joy of being able to paint wherever you go! What you will learn:
1. Selecting paint, paper & brushes
2. Brushstrokes & washes
3. Value & composition wash studies
4. Color mixing
5. Reserving whites, glazing and layering
6. Lifting methods
7. Keeping a watercolor sketchbook & introduction to plein-air painting
8. Incorporating other water-soluble media
For the first class:
A watercolor-paper journal or sketchbook.
• Look for: Acid free, cold press paper, 90lb minimum paper weight.
• A budget-friendly option: Canson XL Watercolor Pad, 7”x10”

During the first class students will be introduced to a range of paints, brushes and papers. After the first class, students will be expected to purchase small quantities of their own brushes, paints, tape, and paper.
Students who have already purchased supplies or who already own watercolor painting materials can bring them to the first class.
