Figure Sculpture
Adult Class | Available
We will be modeling clay figures from a live model. All poses will be standing. There will be six successive poses: three one week poses, two two week poses, and one three week pose. You will need an armature to do a standing figure. If you wish to keep work that is done on an armature you will need to cast it (cannot be fired). If you wish to work with torsos you may use a board with a pole, and fire the results. Everybody is welcome and beginners are encouraged!
What you will learn:
1. Techniques of observation and modeling in clay
2. Methods and materials for additive and reductive sculpting with clay
3. Anatomy, structure, and proportions
4. Options for finalizing and formalizing figurative sculptures
Firing Schedule: Sculpture students are welcome to fire finished work in our Ceramics Studio. Finished work may not be on an armature and must be bone dry before firing. Therefore, sculpture students are encouraged to bring finished work home at the end of the term and bring it back to campus the following term for firing. Additional questions about firing sculpture works can be directed to Scott Cooper, Studio Technician at scooper@fleisher.org.
