Video Art: Projects

This class will focus on the development of time-based video and digital art projects. Participants will explore video art and moving image with a focus on their own independent ideas developing their technical skills with planning, producing, and editing time-based, digital works of art. We will also explore methods of display including installation and projections and online platforms. In addition to the editing and studio aspects of making video, this class will also consider historical examples of the medium as well as readings, which will be chosen in response to the participants' works in progress.
This is an intermediate class. While students do not need to have expertise, they should have some experience making and editing video and should plan to bring their project ideas, sketches, footage or in-progress projects with them to the first session.
What you will learn:
1. Information about the history of video art
2. Intermediate skills for video editing
3. How to generate ideas to move a projects forward
4. Intermediate and experimental methods for gathering and editing footage, installation and display
Please note: This is an 8-session class. Class will not meet on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and on Monday, February 17 in observance of President's Day.
Note that this classroom is accessible by stairs only; please contact Fleisher for more information.
• Any digital camera capable of recording video (phone, tablet, DSLR, etc.)
• A way to easily transfer your recordings to a computer (This will vary depending on your camera, but we can sort this out during the first class if additional help is needed.)
• A physical, portable storage drive no less than 16GB (flash drive or portable hard drive). Cloud storage will not work due to the internet speeds and the size of video files.
