Portrait Painting (five sessions)

Portrait painting has a rich and fruitful history. In this course, students will be exposed to not only a brief history of the portrait but also the varying ways a portrait can be made. From alla prima to a more nuanced depiction using oils or acrylics, a sound structure of painting the human portrait will be explored.
What you will learn:
1. History of portraiture painting.
2. The structure and anatomy of the head/face.
3. Alla prima techniques for portrait painting.
• Gamsol
• Paper towels
• Canvas panels (no smaller than 9x12)
• Brushes (variety of synthetic and/or bristle brushes)
• Paper palette

• Alazarin Crimson

I highly recommend the Utrecht Hues as they're affordable, safe, and the colors are of good quality.
