Come learn how to prepare your own surfaces for painting! Participants will learn several preparations including a traditional marble dust and glue on a panel, mount canvas to a solid support and how to stretch high-quality large canvases. Over the course of two sessions, instructor Dave Heshmatpour will provide demonstrations and go over the pros and cons of each approach and review archival vs non-archival materials. If the schedule allows, the second session will begin with a visit to Artist and Craftsman so that students will be well informed about which materials they should choose to prepare their own medium-sized surface (36" and under). The remainder of the second session will be a hands-on day where participants will prepare their own surfaces with support and instruction. No need to bring any materials for the first session except to take notes. The instructor will share materials lists for each method to help students choose their method and purchase the proper materials. Participants will bring the corresponding materials to the second session.
