Figure Sculpture (tuition-free)

Adult Tuition-Free Class | Available (Membership Required)

We will be modeling clay figures in armatures from a live model. All poses will be standing. There will be three poses in total: two three week poses and one five-week pose. You will need to construct an armature to do a standing figure. I will be sharing instructions on how to make one though you can purchase a figure armature as well. You will be able to reuse the armatures for further figure studies. If you wish to keep the work that is done on an armature you will need to cast it from a mold (figures on armature cannot be fired, unless you fire fragments). If you wish to work with torsos you may use a board with a pole, and fire the results. Everybody is welcome and beginners are encouraged!

Firing Schedule: Sculpture students are welcome to fire finished work in our Ceramics Studio. Finished work may not be on an armature and must be bone dry before firing. Therefore, sculpture students are encouraged to bring finished work home at the end of the term and bring it back to campus the following term for firing. Additional questions about firing sculpture works can be directed to Chris Archer, Senior Studio Technician at carcher@fleisher.org.

All artwork and supplies must be removed from Fleisher’s Sculpture Studio by November 22 unless registered for a Ceramics class during the upcoming Winter 2025 term. All other items left behind on student shelves may be discarded before the next term begins.

Please note: Class will not meet on Thursday, October 3 in observance of Rosh Hashanah or on November 7 due to faculty absence.
