Ceramics for Mosaics: Tiles, Bas-Relief and More (six sessions)

This course will focus on using clay to create mosaic tile designs. Processes covered will be: making dimensional / textural tiles and stamps, designing a functional planter and creating a bas relief “puzzle” mosaic. We will use low fire clay, underglazes and top glaze coat to create these functional projects. Tile setting, grouting and finishing will be covered.
What you will learn:
1. How to interpret a bas relief design from a 2D image
2. How to use texture and relief techniques in clay
3. How to create, set and grout a ceramic mosaic panel.
• Your first bag of clay is included in your registration - no outside clay is permitted. Additional clay can be purchased at the front desk.
• A 8" x 8" x 1/2" masonite, wood, or wedi board (such as this)
• Clay tools (something like this)
• Paint brushes (for underglazing)
